Religion in the Atlantic World

Religion is the leading factor that helped shape the development of several countries in the Atlantic World. Religion was the core reason for migration. People from all over Europe were leaving their countries for what was meant to be religious autonomy and converting nonbelievers to Christianity.

Martin Luther was first men, openly go against the Lolland’s ideas. He believed that the Catholic Church was corrupt for selling indulgences as penance for sins in that the sale was a way for the Church to exploit the unfortunate and poor.

During King Henry VIII’s rule in the sixteenth century, the Church of England was formed. He established the church because the Pope of the Catholic Church would not grant him a divorce from his wife, Catherine of Aragon. Many people felt the only way to obtain religious freedom was to move to a land where they would not be persecuted for their beliefs.

Atlantic World’s Race-Based Slavery:

For the industrialist economy that the Atlantic world was presenting, slavery was a vital source for profit. However, the act of slavery was soon looked down upon as the explanation ideas of natural rights, spiritual ideas pertaining to slavery as sin, and universal freedom, divergent the idea of slavery altogether.

Slavery was also frowned upon because of the religious aspects of it being sinful and biased certainty in the mind of the people that these liberties are of the gift of God?
