Rose Case

For my most recent Rose Service I volunteered as an election judge for the 2014 Primary Election . As a judge I spent a full day (6 a.m.- 8p.m.) setting up and working the polls. I got the opportunity to work with all types of people from all over the city. My fellow volunteers ranged from all different races, religions, ages, etc. The majority of the volunteers were Senior Citizens, so my help as a young athletic male contributed a lot to the aid of those who didn’t have the ability to lift heavy poll machines from crates, or move chairs/tables from from place to another.
“Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.”(Matthew 25:40). It may seem like I didn’t necessarily help the poor, but I actually did. I worked in the 42nd Ward on the Gold Coast, Chicago’s well-known neighborhood of wealth. this meant that predominantly intelligent people with an occasional “snoody” persona were coming to vote. Unfortunately, the women I was stationed with were in their late-70’s and honestly couldn’t communicate on the same level as the voters were accustomed to, so I used my God-given talents of social-skills with the voters and helped my partners whenever there was an issue to make the voting process run much smoother. Also, some older voters had problems with the electronic polls, which me being a teenager who is constantly up to date with technology, helped them whenever help was needed.
Looking back on my past three years of service and especially this most recent one, I’ve learned that God has truly blessed me. He has not only put me on this Earth to achieve my own goals but also to help others along the way. This connects me to St. Augustine’s message of “My Heart is Restless until it Rests in You.”. My heart, mind, and spirit will continue to be on a mission to spread God’s Love and fulfill his plan for me, until it’s accomplished. Only then, will I be able to rest with
