Theological Definitions
Aesthetics- the branch of philosophy dealing with such notions as beautiful, the ugly, the sublime, the comic, etc., as applicable to the fine arts, with a view to establishing the meaning and validity of critical judgments concerning works of, and the principles underlying or justifying such judgments. (People, who like/don't like certain music in church, carpet, paint, etc…)
Ecclesiastical- of or pertaining to the church or the clergy; churchly; clerical; not secular.
Ecclesiology- The theological study of the Christian Church; the science of the building and decoration of churches.
Mortification- the practice of asceticism by penitential discipline to overcome desire for sin and to strengthen the
Asceticism- The condition or practice of self-denial; the doctrine that a person can attain a high spiritual and moral state by practicing self-denial, self-mortification, and the like; rigorous self-denial; extreme abstinence; austerity. =
Eschatology- Any system of doctrines concerning last, or final, matters, as death, Judgment, the future state, etc; The branch of theology dealing with such matters. (End Days, Judgment, Revelation, Second Coming, etc...)
Cognitive Functioning- pertaining to the mental processes of perception, memory, judgment, and reasoning, in contrast with emotional and volitional processes. (Processing things with the mind rather than the heart)
Pragmatism (Pragmatic)- character or conduct that emphasizes practicality; a philosophical movement or system having various forms, but generally stressing practical consequences as constituting the essential criterion in determining meaning, truth, or value.
Carpe Diem- A Latin phrase from a poem by Horace meaning "Seize the day." references to live life to the fullest.
Edify- to instruct or benefit, especially morally or spiritually; uplift: (1 Corinthians 14; purpose of spiritual gifts, prophesy)
Patriarch- The male head of a family or tribal line; a person regarded as the father or founder of an order, class, etc.
Open Theism- The idea that God would not fully know the future due to his gift of free will to humanity; If God fully determines the future; thus humanity does not have liberation free will, that is freedom must necessarily be compatible with God's determining actions.
Reprehensible- Deserving reproof, rebuke, or censure; Blameworthy.
Hedonist (Hedonism, Hedonistic) - A person whose life is devoted to pursuit of pleasure and self-gratification/self-seeking pleasures;
Epicurean- fond of or adapted to luxury or indulgence in sensual pleasures; having luxurious tastes
