Anerexia Case

Anorexia is a type of eating disorder, more importantly it is also a
psychological disorder. "Eating disorders include extreme emotions, attitudes, and
behaviors surrounding weight and food issues. Eating disorders are serious
emotional and physical problems that can have life threatening consequences for
females and males (2005 National Eating Disorders Association)." My best friend Morgan was diagnosed with this incredibly serious disease. Anorexia is a
condition that the person has a very intense fear of gaining weight. They severely
cut down their food intake and become dangerously thin. Anorexia can take over
both the mind and the body. In Morgan's case, when she looked in the mirror all she
saw was a poor self -image, low self esteem, a hope for a better body. Morgan
always put people in front of herself. There was not one selfish cell in her body.
Although behind that beautiful smile, no one would have guessed she was depressed
and was anorexic. Once the first semester of freshmen year was over, Morgan's
world began to tumble. Her grades began to slip; she was getting into fights with her
friends, and her family. Although at school she acted as if she was sailing smoothly.
She thought she had to be perfect all the time. There are many "psychological factors
that can contribute to eating disorders such as low self esteem, feelings of
inadequacy or lack of control in life, depression, anxiety, anger, or loneliness. (2004
National Eating Disorder Association)."
Morgan started dropping weight drastically. At the beginning of freshmen
year, she weighted a normal 110 pounds. She was five feet two inches. By
Halloween, she weighed 86 pounds. It was normal for Morgan to wish she looked
different or could fix something about herself. Anorexia develops as a progress
Morgan was eating half of everything she ate. She started weighing herself everyday
about two times every hour. Her parents did not know, no one knew. No one knew
exactly what was going on because she could not afford to disappoint anyone. After
