Anorexia Nervosa
Anorexia nervosa is a mental illness where both men and women see themselves as overweight even while being perfectly healthy. Anorexic patients watch what they eat too carefully and sometimes do not eat at all believing that if they were to eat less or stop eating all together, they would look like every model seen in a magazine. People struggling from Anorexia stop eating, exercise many times a day, and do whatever they can to lose as much weight as they can. People with Anorexia are accused of seeking attention by refusing to eat and constantly exercising, but they really do this because they do not see the damage it is doing to them physically and mentally. Anorexia is a worldwide problem that is killing the innocent too early.
Anorexia nervosa is caused by psychiatric issues such as trauma, stress, or depression as well as many more. Other causes of Anorexia are relatives or friends who participate in the same actions as well as people in social media who make the patient believe that in order for them to be liked by someone, they have to be skinnier than they already are, resorting to Anorexia. When a person results to Anorexic behavior, the results are thinning hair and bone structure as well as weakness, low blood pressure, heart problems, and many more. People with Anorexia tend to avoid social gatherings to avoid an eating situation. When Anorexic patients do go to a social gathering, they will tend to wear baggy clothing to draw less attention to the shape of their bodies because of their low self esteem.
Although, Anorexia nervosa is probably the most well known eating disorder, it is not the most common eating disorder such as Bulimia or Binge Eating Disorder (BED). Even though Anorexia nervosa is not as common as Bulimia or BED, it has historically resulted in more deaths than both of those eating disorders. Sources say that the Anorexic patients (mostly female) tend to be of fifteen through nineteen years of age. Rather than female, men usually go Anorexic at a later point in their lives.
In conclusion, Anorexia nervosa is a very serious medical disease that should be taken as seriously as it really is. Rather than giving these anorexic patients a hard time and making them work harder to destroy themselves, people should help them become healthier and show these people what self love is. There are anorexic patients all over the world that only keep unintentionally harming themselves because of all of the hate people are giving them for their “attention seeking” disease. People with Anorexia all around the world are innocent, and all they need is a little help and encouragement.
