Becoming a Pediatrician

The job I am considering is becoming a pediatrician. A pediatrician is a physician that provides medical care for babies, children, teenagers and young adults. Pediatricians provide treatment for diseases; treat minor illnesses like the common cold or physical injuries. They prescribe treatment, therapy, medication and vaccination to treat or prevent an illness, disease or injury. They explain and describe treatment with the patient or their parents and maintain medical records. To able to perform the duties mentioned above some requirements have to be met. Pediatricians have to meet the eleven years of education after graduating from high school that are needed. Some of the schooling requirements are graduating from a college or university and medical school. In addition they need to complete residency, obtain a license to practice the profession and a certification by the American Board of Pediatricians.

Chemistry is used by pediatricians all the time when they are completing their duties. They use chemistry when they prescribe medicine to patients. They calculate to find the amount of medicine that will stay in the patient’s body. Performing different medical test for example a blood test, requires the use of chemistry. Pedestrians do this kind of test all the time to help them determine if there is something wrong with the patient. They also use chemistry in college because they have to take a year of basic chemistry to be admitted in medical school.

Becoming a pediatrician requires eleven years of special education after high school graduation. They have to attend a college or a university of their choice for four years which will get them a bachelor’s degree. During these four years the recommended classes are Basic Biology, Genetics, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Basic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics, and Calculus. After college or university they enroll in a medical school for four more years. When they from medical school they are general doctors but they still have to complete three years of residency to completely become a pediatrician.
