Blackfish
Do you enjoy seeing killer whale shows at the aquarium? Did you know that killer whales are taken away from their mothers to be taken to an aquarium for our entertainment? Innocent baby whales are taken away from their families and never see them again, just like kidnapping of a human. The film Blackfish has really opened my eyes about killer whales being held in captivity and sometimes mistreated. I personally don’t think its right to take the whales from their families and having them inside a small pool that they don’t belong in.
The documentary really grabbed my attention and made me feel an emotional connection with the whales. The film showed me how cruel human can be to the whales and how whales are cruel to one another when they aren't with their families. For example, a whale named Tilikum would be attacked by 2 female whales, they would gain up on him. When the trainers would let Tilikum out, they would noticed that he had marks and blood all over his body. The documentary also showed how cruel the trainers could be towards them. The trainers would sometimes hold back food which caused frustration for the whales. Every time whales are doing a show they get rewarded with fish to let them know that they are doing a good job. Whales are so smart that they sense when the trainers are running low on fish because all they hear is the ice rattling at the bottom of the bucket. Once a whale gets frustrated it can be traumatic that it leads to attacks against the trainers.
The documentary built its argument because they are against the whales being held in captivity. The documentary tries to persuade people to think that it's good for the whales to live in aquariums, that they will live longer happier lives. On the other hand the people in the film know that it is not true. For example, in the film there was a girl who tried to make it seem like all the whales that they have captivated
