1. Explain and give examples of GMOs
- Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) are lives such as plant, animals, bacteria or microorganisms that have been genetically modified by Genetic Engineering process by cutting of the gene of species to insert in another kind that not usually possible in natural to have needed attribute that are called GMOs example: gene that can stand in very cool weather from Antarctic fish mixed to potatoes for add ability for tomatoes to grow in cold places.
2. What are the benefits and downsides of GMOs
Advantages:
- The first advantage is increase products that could means product will bigger, heavier and fresher, the product will be stay in several weather that will easier to grow plants in diverse weather places, also can fight with virus or plant’s enemy, also customers can keep product for longer, also discover new generation of plants.
- Almost vaccines and medicines are made from GMOs
- GMOs decrease to use chemical that will protect the environment a lot.
Disadvantages:
- Risks of customers that consume GMOs product that won’t pass quality of control, also some customers will allergic because GMOs is new generation of plants that sell in the market and not from natural affect consumers.
- Selectable market that use to make antibiotic resistance but sometime it not effective in treat.
- GMOs affect several gene because its can protect themselves from bugs it will makes involve of bug and weed to be “super bug” and “ super weed”.
3. Explain the impact of GMOs policy on the farmers in India and Mexico
India
- Indian farmers are committing suicide because of Monsanto’s GMOs Crops they supposed to feed the world hunger, in 2008 the continuous suicide happened in India, in 2002 after Indian use cotton from Monsanto average of suicide were increase faster it started when farmers buy corps form Monsanto I hope that it will pest resistant but a quality was fade away and farmer have to buy again and pay for Monsanto that in very high cost make farmers bankrupt and endless chain of obligations of Monsanto so they do not have enough choice except killed themselves to end the problems. Monsanto forcing farmers to buy them seed and these seeds died every year that makes farmers have to buy new form them that make 60% of Indian population fall in starvation.
Mexico
- In 2012 Monsanto got a permitted to plant its seeds in seven states even have a lot of protests from farmers and beekeepers, the Mexico National Commission for the knowledge and use for Biodiversity, In withdrawing the permit because the judge saw the impact from GMOs soy crops, Mexico has concern about roundup-ready crops to be resistant to glyphosate that may poses a risk to human and animal health but Monsanto had reject this, GMOs crops have destroy the European market for Mexican, Monsanto said Mexico government do not has commitment to take care of problems that appear in some of export productions, so the editorial took an interview about GMOs crops with Monsanto GMOs corn impacts with the environment Mexico use corn to feed animals that will bring a lot of impacts, 60 corn species was attack by GM so GM corn from Monsanto was reject by the court, GM corn process bring the high cost of producing process, GMO corn will also increase Mexico’s social and political dependence on oligopolies, once transnational corporations dominate the seed market they are continue to recommend another GM seeds and increase their power than Mexico farmers, but finally Mexico had fight in the court with Monsanto and hope to be the winner.
