1 How does the Hispanic population traditionally define health? Give two examples of how they restore their health. Hispanics typically define health as a gift from God and believe that the lack of health is in some way a curse. Most Hispancis are Catholic and believe in offerings and laying of hands and speaking in tongues (all ritualistic in nature). They believe by confessing of their sins they will not become ill. Hispanics restore their health by many ways 1.)Remedies 2.) Religious rituals 3.) Offering medals and candles & offering prayer.
There are four models of health. Describe the Clinical model and give examples. The Clinical Model is technically defined as the absence, and illness by the conspicuous presence, of signs and symptoms of disease. To elaborate, this is when a person will wait until they are very ill before going in for treatment. For example, the patient comes into the ER 1 week after a spider bite. Initial signs prior to ER visit include itching, inflammation, and redness. They then go to ER with swelling, fever, and pain. The only reason they went in was because a family member made them. So instead of Benedryl, ibuprofen and a minor antibiotic they receive, steroids, Vancomycin and Vicodin. They have waited and let the reaction fester and worsen.
1. What are the differences between primary, secondary and tertiary levels of prevention? Include an example of a nursing activity related to each level. Prevention of diseases is very important to ones health. The three levels of prevention are primary, secondary and tertiary. Primary prevention includes maintenance of health and the prevention of specific diseases. A nurse activity on a primary level could be giving mandatory immunizations to prevent infections and diseases. The next level is secondary. This includes identifying a disease in its early stage and providing methods of treatments for eliminating the disease. For example in breast cancer, a method for secondary prevention would be examination and mammogram. However if the disease progresses, then the next level of prevention would be tertiary.
