Is Evolution Relevant Today?
To put in simply, I firmly believe that evolution is relevant today. The question I always have in mind when encountering this question is “why wouldn’t it be?”. As a result of the implications and development to evolution, these pave the way for the assurance that evolution truly is relevant, especially to our species.
One idea that I have in mind is that evolution means development and innovation for species. More specifically for us humans, our development of genes led us to what we are today. As genes and DNA are passed down from family member to family member, different traits pass, both bad and good. Whether it be looks, personality, or even characteristics, there is no doubt how our traits are passed down. One pro of this is that we can pass down our good traits, traits in which enabled these particular people to survive. Once this passes down, it can help the future people to continually develop and nurture such genes. The con of passing down, though, is that some genes carry bad genes which could prove to be unfortunate for some. It is important to note, however, that when a person passes their genes, it is not 100%, meaning not all traits will be passed down but only some. Call it luck, perhaps, but one thing is for sure, the development of genes is normal and is truly relevant for the succession of our species.
From a personal view, evolution is relevant because it made me who I am today. My mind and body are affected by such evolution. Through my genes, I have been able to work out to be what I am now and this has led to me to live the life I have right now. The genes I have are brought by my parents which were brought by theirs and so on. With this, it is clearly shown that we are all connected through some of the genes. I find this relevant because first of all, it shows the connection between people, most especially family. Second of all, this shows how evolution is important because it paves the way for development of my life and character as a human person. Everyone is tasked to live life and survive, as shown by Charles Darwin’s “survival of the fittest” mantra. As a result, our genes is what defines us and we should continue to develop these through succession of our species. Personally, this makes me appreciate who I am because I know that even if I am happy or sad about things, it is truly the way I was brought up that defines me.
