It has the two upper “arms” called posterior horns, the two lower “legs” called anterior horns, a small projection of gray matter called the lateral horn, and gray commissure which connects the right and left sides of H together. There is also a small hole in its center called the central canal.
- What does the lighter surrounding matter consist of?
White matter composed mostly of myelinated fibers. It is divided into anterior, posterior, and lateral columns.
- What do you suppose the light brown matter surrounding the spinal cord is? The three membranes of the CNS: dura matter, pia mater, and arachnoid.
- What color is the vertebral body? Pink or white
Question 2: What is the bright, light colored structure? Intervertebral disc

The cervical enlargement contains nerves that supply the upper appendages and those of the lumbar enlargement supply the lower appendages.
Question 4: Spinal nerves descend from the conus medullaris at the end of the spinal cord. What are these spinal nerves as a group called? At what spinal level does this structure begin? Cauda equina. Lumbar vertebral levels L1 and L2.
Question 5: What is this layer of brain meninges called? What are the two other layers of brain covering below this layer called? Dura matter. Arachnoid and pia matter.
Question 6: What is one major function of each lobe of the brain? Frontal lobe: controls voluntary movement/activity.
