Lab 3:NOISE

IE 210 Lab Section 3

2/22/2012

Abstract:

Many people around campus have been complaining that the sound levels in their building are not sufficient. In this lab the group went to a building and took sound measurements of different rooms and then compared them to what the sound measurement should have been. In Freeman Hall there was not any sound really at all. Each room had an acceptable level of sound and not much needed to be changed. The only way the sound levels might need to be fixed is to add sound to the rooms.

Introduction:

In this lab, studies are conducted to determine the sound levels in certain building on campus. People have been complaining about there working environments saying that there is either too much or too little sound. Having the correct amount of sound in an area for the tasks being completed can vastly increase accuracy and production level. In order to help these people with their sound levels the lab team will conduct test of noise in different locations and compare them to recommended amounts in order to keep everyone safe.

Materials:

The only materials needed for this lab is a sound meter, but in order for results to reflect accurately the test should be done around 6 p.m. in

Methods:

Groups of 5 or 6 went to 4 different locations to take noise measurements. Our group went to Freeman hall and used our sound meter in 4 different locations in the building. The team took 4 measurements in each room and recorded them on their sheets. Then the team scanned the location to see what sort of activities where taking place in each room. Then once the team was done and had recorded all there information they returned to the classroom and returned their light meter. Then use the measurements to determine a range of the dB levels in each room. Compare these levels with the OSHA recommended levels and see if the noise is too loud.
