Classroom Assessment Techniques (CATs) are used to improve teaching and learning in the classroom. Multiple-choice examination is assessment method utilized to test different types of learning. To be effective, multiple-choice exams should incorporate several cognitive domain levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy. Nature of the Assessment
Course Subject
The course title is Delivering Health Care in America. Complexity of financing is one the primary characteristics of medical care delivery in the United States. Both private and public resources are used to purchase healthcare services through a multitude of programs and health plans. Patients pay for some services directly but most services are paid for indirectly through a variety of insurance plans, managed care organizations (MCOs), and government programs. As healthcare providers, students in this course are expected to have working knowledge of how health care services are reimbursed. They should be knowledgeable about the major similarities and differences between the U.S healthcare systems and other countries’ systems.
Outcome to be Measured:
At the end of the courses learners are expected to:
- Develop and understanding of the role of healthcare financing and its impact on the delivery of health care.
- Understand the basic concept of insurance and how general insurance terminology applies to health insurance
- Understand the various methods of reimbursement
- Be able to discuss the health care systems in other countries
Target Population
The course is designed for Medgar Evers College’s baccalaureate nursing students. Medgar Evers is a four-year public institution located in Brooklyn New York. As a senior institution of the City University of New York (CUNY), it has one of the largest nursing programs in the city, graduating hundreds of nursing students yearly. The student body is very diverse. The nursing students enrolled in this course are of Hispanic descent, African Americans or Blacks, Caucasians and Asians. Most of them are full-time students but also full-time employees. Several verbalized difficulty juggling school and life responsibilities. The age ranges from 20-43 years old. They are adult learners in their final semester of the four- year program.
Assessment
Formative and summative evaluations are strategies educators use to assess the outcomes of learning. Several assessment instruments may be used to conduct these evaluations (Twigg, 2012). When choosing an assessment instrument, educators must ensure that the chosen instrument effectively assess the targeted learning objectives and/or skills. Bloom’s Taxonomy will be utilized to create the multiple-choice items for this formative assessment.
