On the website http;//fruit-crops.com it stated that banana trees and plants have provided man with tools, food, clothing and shelter prior to recorded history. Bananas are adapted to wet, hot, tropical lowlands. They grow better in temperatures of 72-90F. If the temperature drops below 56F growth ceases. Chiquita bananas come from Ecuador, Colombia, Panama, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala and Mexico. Bananas coming from Mexico to where I live Lebanon, Tennessee travel 1,563 miles.

By obtaining nearby grown foods you aid in maintaining farmland and green and/or open space in your neighborhood. Locally grown food has more supplements. Locally grown food has a lessened time amidst gathering and your table, and it is less likely that the supplements has decreased. Food imported from far-away states and countries is often older, has traveled and sits in distribution centers before it gets to your store. I try to buy local as much as possible.
