• What are the main pollutants found in water?
The main pollutants found in water are pathogens and fecal coliform. Pathogens are any type of bacteria such as: typhoid fever, cholera, salmonellosis, diarrhea, and numerous parasites. These things get into the water and cause diseases to spread into the human consumption causing outbreaks and sickness. The fecal coliform is all the human and animal waste that is washed into the water supplies. All those animals and humans that use the bathroom on the ground contribute to this factor.
• Why is human waste a main culprit in water pollution, especially in third world countries?
Human waste is a culprit for all those places or areas that do not have bathroom facilities. Third world countries are known for this. They have camps that need to dispose of their waste which they end up doing in the water supply.
• Discuss an example of a pathogen found in water from human feces:
Salmonellosis is a pathogen found in water from human feces. This type of pathogen is that can get into the water source from a bacterium that is growing. This can show up as a form of diarrhea in humans which may lead to death. Prevention is to make sure that all food is fully cooked before consumption.
o What is the organism, how does it infect humans, what are the symptoms and treatments?
It can infect humans by eating food that is contaminated with animal feces. The symptoms are diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps which is usually thought of the flu or other viruses. Treatments are plenty of fluids and sometimes require intravenous fluids but lots of water over the course of 5 to 7 days usually works
