Group term paper

List of topics:

1. Conventional and Islamic hire purchase in Malaysia: Compare and contrast.

2. Value relevance of the valuation method adopted by public listed firms in Malaysia in accounting for investment property (MFRS 140).

3. The difference between Ijarah and conventional lease.

4. An overview of accounting standard setting in Malaysia.

5. The impact of the newly adopted accounting standard on accounting for goodwill in Malaysia.

You are required to do a write-up on one of the above topics that is assigned to you. The following is a set of guidelines and requirements that you need to adhere when writing this term paper:

• The term paper (excluding references) should not exceed 3,500 words.
• The term paper must be word-processed using Times New Roman font style; 12 font size and double spacing for the gap between two lines. In addition, the term paper must be printed on both sides.  
• The term paper must be handed in to the Department of Accounting office on Friday, 17 April 2015, by 4.45pm. Marks will be deducted for any late submission on the basis of 1 mark per day.
• All relevant references must be included in the appended bibliography. Any plagiarisms spotted will be heavily penalized.

This term paper will be assessed as follows:

1. Quality of the write-up based on the content and clarity of topic discussed / issues addressed.
2. Structure of the write up based on the flow of ideas/discussions; the way it is being organized etc.
3. Originality/creativity based on the way it is being written such as using own phrases; the adequacy of the literature review and the way the literature is being reviewed as well as the incorporation of own views/thoughts on the topic discussed.
4. Language: Spelling; grammar and construction of sentences.
5. Meeting the dateline and all the requirements as specified above.
