Analysis of News Channels
Since the past two years, it is being observed that the news channels in Pakistan have taken a totally different look. If we go a few years back, there was not even a single news channel of Pakistan itself to serve the nation, and the only source of news on television at that time was the 9’o clock PTV News. Though we did have access to the satellite news channels, but we had none of our own. But if we look at the number of news channels today, we have more than 18 news channels of our own.
As these news channels came into being, people started to get aware of the situation of the country more deeply. The news channels of Pakistan have started to highlight simply everything that is happening in the country. Many people have the opinion that they highlight the negative points of the Government much more than the positive side and the good measures that they take for our country. Many say that many of the events that take place in Pakistan also take place worldwide even in the developed countries but their news channels don’t make a huge issue of that like news channels in our country do.
It is felt that these news channels are acting as anti government agencies at some point in times. With the increased number of news channels in Pakistan, competition has also increased among them that as to who reports the news first and with accuracy. Now people have developed a kind of brand loyalty to these channels and they don’t feel comfortable watching any other channel. With the increased competition in the race of gathering more and more viewers, different channels have come up with different strategies. Some are working on their graphical appearances, some on the outlook of their news casters, and some on their coverage. Like Aaj News, they bring news five minutes before than every other news channel.
