- Summary
As the ASEAN Economic community slowly reaching its potential, the ASEAN-6 region countries are continuously searching how and where their countries can be compatible. In the Article, ASEAN Regional Entrepreneurship Report, they discuss the major factors that affect potential and intentional entrepreneurs in each country of the ASEAN-6 region. Through this study we will be able to understand why people from different countries in the ASEAN community engage and exit entrepreneurship. Here are some factors that the article discussed:
SOCIAL, CULTURAL, POLITICAL, And ECONOMIC CONTEXT – This factor probably carries the biggest bearing in merging the ASEAN-6 Region community. In this we can find the summary of laws, types of businesses, cost of living, factors that can affect a better growth of one business in a certain country compared to another, and so much more. This is where the situational context of why countries or business men and women engage in certain businesses. We can also see how the government impacts business related concerns. A good example for this is how the Philippines has a noticeably lower sin-tax compared to other countries in the ASEAN-6 region. This can be a golden egg opportunity for other entrepreneurs from other countries because of their constraints in their own countries.
Another example is how certain beliefs may be a hindrance or opportunity for entrepreneurs in different countries. Taking countries like Malaysia and Singapore for instance, their country is inhabited by people from different races and beliefs, they have made a great deal in keeping their people happy by giving them their needs in the religious aspect equally.
Also geographically some countries in the ASEAN-6 region may have an edge industry wise. The Philippines, although not implemented well, may be dominant in the agricultural and tourism industry due to it having a wide area for agriculture and also for it being an archipelago the country has limitless possibilities for tourism. It is more likely to say that the Philippines is not focusing more on its strengths to be one of the top countries in the ASEAN community.
SOCIAL VALUES TOWARD ENTREPRENUERSHIP – As described in the article, it is the extent of the values of communities towards entrepreneurship, may it be good or bad. It was also mentioned it the article that countries in the ASEAN-6 region have different outlooks on professions, that some countries do not value entrepreneurship as the others.
In this we can see the different values of communities from different countries in the ASEAN-6 region. It is evident that people in a certain countries have different reasons to putting up a business. It may be because of family succession in the aim of the continuity of established businesses, it may also be how different opportunities are seen by Intentional entrepreneurs. The boundaries may be limitless thanks to the opening of the ASEAN community. This may be the opportunity for established businesses to spread throughout Asia.
