As a human service professional, I would like to seek employment at Family of Woodstock Inc. located in Ulster County, New York. I have done my duties of researching this agency and its history in this community. I will also search what resources this agency has for their community members and how they meet those needs. In addition, I will discuss how the values, morals, attitudes and beliefs have changed over the course of 40 years and how specialization has become a trend among human services delivery in general.

Family of Woodstock Inc. services residents in the Ulster county and surrounding areas. This agency helps people who are victims of domestic violence, runaways, food pantry, and services for people who have mental health concerns. The difference between this agency and others out there is these services are free of charge and seek to help members in their community through love, compassion, respect and dignity. This agency has been able to operate with the support of community members through donations and fundraising. This agency has people who are paid and volunteered which truly looking to help a person who is in need. Since 1970, this agency has opened its doors to the less fortunate and those who are in need of assistance.

Family of Woodstock offer many different services to their community members such as housing programs, food assistance, advocates, counseling and crisis intervention. When you examine an agency, you look at specialized care that they can offer you, but this particular agency looks at its care as a complete healing facility. They are able to assist in crisis prevention and awareness to after care and treatment. If they do not have the services that you seek, available to you through their agency they can help assist you in seeking those services through another provider. Their primary goal is to assist with helping individuals who are in need of healthy personal growth.

Through the years of operation, this agency has faced numerous difficulties and challenges from over population and limited services available to vast growing numbers of people who wanted to lend a helping hand. This agency has seen many teen runaways and has transformed that department into semi-independent living setting to help kid’s complete school and have a safe environment to learn and grow. Through the expansion and growth of this community resource, they needed to find funding to help support the growth and employment of individuals to help service the community. Though the years they have found different ways to adjust and change to the demand of human services needs of individuals. Times has changed and so did the agency, in the beginning they were a shelter for people who were victims and they took an approach that would educate their community and help prevent and spread awareness to their cause.
