Introduction
Statistical analysis is the science of gathering, searching and displaying considerable amounts of data to explore hidden arrangements and trends ("Statistical Analysis- What Is It?", 2016). The article “Social workers and workplace bullying: Perceptions, responses and implications” provided a statistical analyses of the effectiveness of analyzing data obtained from human service agencies. This article also provides descriptive statistic that were used in the study on social workers’ perceptions about and responses to workplace bullying.
Summarization of the Article
This article was a non-experimental, cross-sectional case study of social workers’ impressions of workplace bullies, skills social worker is to establish coping responses to workplace ability. A mail questionnaires were collected, in order to assemble quantitative knowledge. An individuals’ semi-structured interviews were also checked. This example, included one hundred and eleven females’ and males’ social worker’s from the metropolitan area in Washington, D.C. The final conclusion was that 3 to 5 social worker’s reported that they were recipients of undesirable and unfavorable working conditions. The bullies targeted individuals that work customarily in mental health and military outpatient organizations or government agencies. 35% of the targets held a discreet service role, and 29% held an administrative or management role. By using proper tools and guidelines, evidence showed in professional agencies how to stop bullying in the workplace. Unlike unplanned criminal victimization that happens in the public, bullying is considered problematic due to it being considered as abuse at work. Bullying is not just costly for the victim, but it is also costly to the company as well. Employers fear for their employees mental and physical safety, because it could lead to increased stress, reduced productivity, and even violence (Whitaker, T., 2012).
Statistical Analyses within the Article
Within the article there is an integration of tables, it also gives a descriptive statistic that helped with the understanding of the data. It provided 5 tables of illustrations in the article. The first table showed components of the workplace bullies, also showed components ranging by demographics, age, and gender of the social workers (Whitaker, T., 2012). The second, shows the roles of the targets and organizational settings. Also displayed specific individuals that were all identified as bullies. For example, clients, supervisors, subordinates, and colleagues. It exhibits (65%) of women were more likely to be identified as bullies, than men were (33%) likely (Whitaker, T., 2012). Where the third table shows the most troubling behaviors of bullying, it shows that secretly that hostile and verbal actions were the most disturbing behaviors. Disrespect and undervalued at work is the hardest form of bullying in the workplace. The fourth table shows characteristics that were either assertive or passive according to the coping scale. The assertive scale showed a ranging score of 60 where the passive scale showed a ranging score of 24. The mean and median scores showed that they were 42.5, and a multiple modal score. Fifth and final showed the analysis of the responses, assertive or passive coping skills codes in explaining strategies and responses (Whitaker, T., 2012).
