Clarify values within an organization is extremely important. Not only it establishes the credibility of your leadership, but it acts as a guidance of your leadership. Values of your organization create commitments to the organization. Clarify values also needs to be the truth. One cannot copy other people words and use it as their own values. Clarify values must be expressed using your own words. A true leader must be clear about their values in order to be effective in an organization. When values are cleared, leadership is credible, and the value of the organization is shared from top to bottom, employees’ productivity, job satisfaction, and their motivation increase significantly.

Before I work in law enforcement, I worked for a hobby company as a marketing specialist. The Chief Executive Officer of the company was an excellent leader in my opinion because he is very cleared about his company’s value and he lives by it. He shared his value with his employees and if he felt one of his employees not understand the company values, he will clarify the company’s value. The company value was Efficiency, customer focus, integrity, innovation, humble, commitment, passion, and team work. The CEO would explain each of those values to us in his own words and his past experience. He would inspire us and thrive to make us better. The CEO truly stands by the company’s value, as his action reflect his words.

I remembered when I was part of the marketing team; I live and stand by those values along with the CEO of the company. I was proud to be a member of this company.  I remembered from time to time that customers would ask us how it feels to work for that company and we would tell them that it was the best company that we ever worked.  When I was in charge of local events, I would have to lead a team of coworkers to advertise our company. I felt my team was very effective because we were sharing the company’s value. I would make sure that everyone is on the same page. I did it not because it is my job, but I am passionate about what I do and I care about what I do. I often set common goals for the team and we thrive to achieve the goal. I believe that an effective leader is someone that can share his/her own values with his team and he is able to connect to everyone which he/she is leading.
