Assignment 3.1:  Determining Causes and Effects – Draft Version

The President of Strayer University has asked you (a full time university professor) to write about the major causes and effects of stress on college students. The paper will be presented to senior administration in order to help students have a more positive college experience.

        Going to college is something some of us do not ever think is within reach.  Sometimes it puts in our head that college is not for all of us.  But there are points in some families where college is required for some children leaving high school because the parents expect more of their children.  In this research paper it is my intention to show some of the causes to why college students are stressed such as not being organized, time management, and work load and how those stresses affect their college life (Colon, 2015).  

Describe the major causes.

        The major causes for stresses among college student would be Time management.  College students tend to think that they can keep the same study habits that they had in high school.  But they soon realize the study habits are totally different in college, you no longer have teachers standing over you constantly telling you to turn your homework assignments into the teacher.  Other reasons time management is so stressful is because they are trying to balance school work with that new found freedom of not having parents giving you a curfew.  

Describe the leading second cause.

        The second leading cause of stress among college students would be not being organized enough.  With college life you have to be very well organized and have a notebook for each class you are taking.  College students in the beginning think they can do what was done in high school, which is not taking any notes.  But that type of study method does not work in college because organization is the key to success in college. And being able to pinpoint when something is due, if you have a quiz or not.  In college highlighters, and sticky tabs are a college student’s best friend, because it is important to highlight information the professor tells you that you will see again on a test or quiz.  

Describe two economic effects and causes

        The first economic effects stress on college students is not having the finances needed for day to day college living.  When college students are at school and feel as if they are alone and have nowhere to turn this type of situation is difficult for them to handle.   The cause of them not having the money for the things they feel they need to make it is because of the high unemployment rate among college students.  And then that goes back to not knowing how to balance their time so that they are able to seek employment.
