Days Without Hate

For my event, I took part in the Days Without Hate event. Although I did not attend all of the events for the anti-hate program, I learned a lot from the day that I went and also learned more by speaking with one of the guys running the pledge table at Livingston. When speaking to him about the program, he explained to me what the anti-hate rally was all about. I learned that there was a lot more to the program than I thought. The anti-hate rally was four days long and included an array of events such as its Beyond Genocide program where they are helping to establish education programs in Sudan, its show called Dating Violence where SCREAM theater performed, its Perspectives on Disability program which taught about problems disabled students face, and the event’s concluding performance on College Ave. In addition to learning a lot about this event’s goal, I was happily able to take part in the pledging to be a part of the group of people spreading peace around Rutgers and around the world. I will not just let this be a signature on a piece of paper; rather, I will do my part and help spread peace to those who have issues with certain groups of people because frankly, there is no reason to hate another person because of the color of their skin, their religion, or their culture.

I felt that by going to this event I was able to get in touch with a part of myself that I have never seen before. I know this sounds tacky, but it’s true. By taking part in the anti-hate rally I was given a new perspective on the way I look at others who are not the same ethnicity or religion as me. I have broadened my vision about the people in my world and as a result, I am now more aware of the problems of hatred in the world. From this, I hope that I can do my part, however small it may be, and change the lives of some by spreading my views on anti-hatred. I feel that if I can get some help from my friends around me, we can effectively start showing others that there is
