Engineers Without Borders Simulation Essay
Engineers without borders was a very enjoyable simulation for me as I had the opportunity of working with more international students apart from my classmates. What was more interesting and new for me, was the fact that I had the chance to get in touch with my peers through Skype and, even though at the beginning of the simulation the connection was very bad and we sometimes struggled to understand each other, I can say that all in all, this was a new and very satisfactory experience.
In general I can say I liked many things about this project, but the three most important ones were the experience I acquired from this type of simulation which was completely new for me; the different options of projects me and my peers had the chance to participate on; and finally, the learning experience of having an overall project that included writing letters, preparing a poster, and selecting those organizations and persons that were more suitable for participating on it.
During this project, we had some very enjoyable moments on the one hand, but the most fruitful ones were at the times when me and my partners had to discuss from the start of selecting the project, to the final organization of what to do. And this is an experience that could be even more enjoyable if we had more simulations of this type. On the other hand, the most challenging moments were at the times when we had to discuss deadlines because at the beginning, when we were dividing tasks, we all thought they would be clear, but at the end we got confused and also, due to the time difference, it was sometimes complicated to finish a task at a specific hour. This is why, to overcome difficulties, we had to keep in touch after classes, so that we could have it all prepared beforehand.
Personally, at times I felt a bit lost and confused during the project because even though I had agreed beforehand on some tasks with my peers, I sometimes received different instructions from them and from the professors, something that made me feel somehow stressed. But apart from that, I can say that in general I feel satisfied as it was a very interesting experience where I had the opportunity of meeting new people and learning new things.
In terms of communicating with my group peers, again I can say that at times it was hard to get in touch with them due to Skype’s bad connection, but later on we improved our communication by using other networks such as Whatsapp in order to continue with our project, which allowed me to learn even more about their culture. Luckily, not only my character but as well my peer’s character helped us fulfill the project in a satisfactory way, as they were all interested in knowing more about me and I was also curious on learning more about them, making us all have more interactive and entertaining conversations among each other.
