Specific purpose: To inform my audience about homelessness as a way of life.
Central idea: the self-pride of homelessness and necessity of financial assistance of individuals.
1.Introduction
Homelessness is not a strange world for most of us in this society. For a basic aspect, the Oxford dictionary briefly defines the “homeless” word as “a group of person without home, and therefore typically live on the streets.” For a literal aspect, the Cornell University Law School explains it as “an individual or family who lacks a fixed, regular and adequate nighttime residence.” According to the authorized acknowledge and socialized observations, we all regard the homeless people as a group of poor people without any shelters and need sympathy. However, how many people realize that they have a same mind-set as normal people and eager to be recognized without any pity? They also have their self-pride, which cannot easily be cut to the quick.
2.Transition
Self-pride is strongly needed and should be respect by everyone.
3.Body#1
A. Topic sentence: Self-pride is as the same significance as food and shelters in the eyes of homeless people.
B. Supporting sentences: According to the state of homelessness in America 2012, the homelessness decreased by 1 percent between the 2009 and 2011. Here is the graph that shows the change rate of homelessness in every state (in ppt). Here comes the question. Actually that period contains the economic downturn in the nation due to the global financial crisis, why the number of homelessness still decreases in such a bad circumstance? The socialists find that a small portion of the reason is due to the self-pride of this kind of people, which also means that they are not willing to admit they are homeless. They believe that the only difference from the normal people is they do not have firm shelters to sleep and jobs to do, they still have the ability to make their life and they should not be listed as “special group”. A Chinese homeless person has told me that, she hopes to be equally treated as normal people because her density and sprit is not limited in the range of “homeless”. Therefore, self-pride is one of the spiritual support that encourage them confirm the existence of themselves in such a tough society and grad any hope in their life.
4.Transition: This is quite true from their aspect, because they have nothing left but the self-pride.
5.Body#2:
A. Topic sentence: Actually, the current positions make the homeless people be more sensitive and self-protective in order to preserve the self-pride.
B. Supporting sentences: preserve the self-pride. They wear old jeans, sleep on the ground, eat the stale bread and receive all kinds of sights. In their surrounding, people will suits or high heels walking confidently through the tall buildings, holding a cup of Starbucks and then open an expensive car. The strong contrast makes the homeless feel like they will be abandoned by the society if they sit near the street and wait for the almsgiving. The self-pride mentions them that they used to lead a life like normal people and they will still have chance to lead such a life if they think and act like the normal people. One interviewer from the homeless group says that, “ Sometimes I feel like that I am a poor dog when people give me a loaf without looking at me when I sit on the side of street. I understand their kind intentions, but it still makes me feel sick because I think they do not respect me at all.” “People believe we need help and sympathy because we all poor, actually we do not need them at all. We do not have enough food and water, but we still have self-pride.”
