Juvenile Crime Statistics

This paper will cover the statistics of juveniles and a crime rates, in regards to the Juvenile Justice Bulletin and display a decrease in arrest amongst juveniles as reported by the 2001 juvenile arrest reports. Regardless of this decrease in the overall juvenile arrest there has been an increase in numbers in the juveniles in aggravated assault and drugs. Along with these reports it has also been documented that females have committed approximately half of the crimes that are documented. Finally, we will also take a peek into where females and minorities juveniles compare to the majorities numbers.

The origin of the Juvenile Justice Systems and the many issues it entail dates back to the early 1800’s. The Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention deals with and examines the arrest of juveniles, there criminal activity, and the crimes they have committed through statistics. As of recent this study has shown an overall decline in juveniles that were arrested according to the Juvenile Justice Bulletin. In recent years the statistics of juveniles arrested has been the lowest since the 80's according to the Juvenile Justice bulletin. These juvenile diversion programs are more or so focused on the rehabilitation of these young offenders rather than punishment. The ultimate goal of organizations like this is to deter juvenile offenders from becoming career criminals and allow the chance for them to become productive members of society.

The 90’s and the 2000’s Statistics

In the early 90’s the juvenile arrest statistics we're through the roof and did not stop elevating until the early 2000's. Violent crime amongst juvenile has dropped consecutively in recent years since 2006 about 5% as reported by the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention in last year. The majority of offenses amongst juveniles were drug related and counted for merely all of the crime statistics in the 90’s. In the late 90's until the late 2000's for approximately 10 years was a decrease in juvenile is being arrested for drug related crimes, although the numbers were still higher than statistics were able to prove in the early 90's.

According to (Snyder, 2003) “the arrest statistics report 12% of juveniles arrested made by law enforcement were due to simple assault, drug offenses and crimes in which violence was involved in the early 2000’s; along with 14% for robberies, 12% forcible rape, 12% aggravated
