What is sex? Everyone does it, just no one wants to talk about it. This film encounters the topic of sex and how the human behavior evolves throughout the years. Alfred Kinsey grew up in a very closed-minded family and was not allowed to express his "animalistic" sexual instincts. Throughout the years growing up and studying gall wasps, he became intrigued with the way people lacked information about sex and how the sexual organs worked. His ability to share this type of "taboo-like" information drew the masses and he gained the trust of all to disclose such sexual stories that he began to study sexual behavior. The film shows us how we have progressed with voicing our sexual thoughts and also informs us that "normal" is truly in the eye of the beholder.
As I watched this film I began thinking of how hard it was for me growing up and feeling all these strange and different emotions. I did not know if it was "normal" to feel such types of sensations. No one asked, therefore in my mind it was not allowed. I would feel guilty even thinking about it, nonetheless terrible acting upon it. I would feel as if I was almost a dark and evil person for knowing. Finally, I decided to question others just to see if I was really that different. I was shocked to learn that everyone at that time felt the same things I did. As you may see, I was instantly drawn to this film because I understood what it was trying to reflect to the audience. The wanting to know more information and the ability to talk about it is amazing. I still sit in awe when I am able to learn more about my feelings and body. Each day I learn more ways to express myself and feel comfortable knowing that my body is my temple and every organ has its purpose; whether it be sexual or not.
