When I read this question it was a no brainer, I had to show you my true passion Triathlons, but if you had asked me this question 3 years ago, I wouldn’t have been able to answer it. I didn’t have any, but about that long ago, someone invited me to join them to train for a triathlon, A TRIATHLON, ME!!??? I started and I loved it; and, as cheesy as it may sound, it has changed my life.
Never in a million years could I imagined I would do a triathlon, I was never sporty as a child or growing up, so when I started, founding the discipline that takes becoming an athlete was a challenge in itself, and although the physical payoffs of training are amazing, the mental rewards are even greater.
Since becoming a triathlete, I have become more productive, while training; I clear my mind and improve my focus. My most lucid and inspired thoughts always arise during bike rides, after swims or while running with my dog Lola at dawn in Chapultepec, and so I start my days feeling reinvigorated and ready for the day ahead. Essentially, as my body had become stronger, my mind has followed.
Before becoming a triathlete I suffer of anxiety, just the thought of being in a stressful situation would paralyze me, so by training I develop the skill of handling stress more efficiently. By learning how to “relax into” more intense physical efforts as let´s say a 60-minute run, for example, I´m now able to maintain mental composure during more stressful situations. One of the most gratifying outcomes of my training is that few things in my daily life unsettle me. I am now mentally stronger. The confidence and self-confidence that comes from achieving something like a triathlon is certainly a remarkable achievement if I say so myself. I have become more capable of setting aside my fears and doubts to achieve other extraordinary things.
