Minneapolis Pornography Ordinance

The Minneapolis Pornography Ordinance was formed by the Minneapolis City Council in order to put in place a law that will allow women to sue if they “experience sexual pleasure in being raped or mutilated”. The theory behind the Pornography Ordinance is that pornography is harmful and the victims within should have legal rights. They believe that pornography promotes rape and mutilation within its films and those who watch will obtain an attitude that justifies “aggression”. The problem with the Pornography Ordinance is that it describes pornography as being oppressive to all women whether starring in the movie or simply transporting the pornographic goods. This gives the women the right to sue the pornographer, which in reaction has the pornographic creators hiding behind the freedom of speech. Even with its good intentions to help curb the violent crimes of rape and mutilation inspired by violent pornography, the Minneapolis Pornography Ordinance still has to refine its rules to help with this conflict without crushing the freedom of speech laws allowed to every American Citizen.
