MUNICH HORRIFYING PAST
Of all the cities in Germany the one that has been haunted by their past the most is definitely Munich. From what I have read, seen through tours and watched movies the reason is clear; Hitler’s obsession with Bavaria specifically turned them into the birthplace of the Nazi Era.
Why recognize the past if it haunts them so much. Not only are they constantly reminded in school and through monuments but also tourists constantly treat them as thou they are the ones to blame just because they are Germans. What little remains from that era you can still see but there is no symbol or historical fact about it. In my opinion I would not like to see any symbolism of the Nazi Era.
There is no reason to glorify or even give the Nazi’s the right to be remembered in places where history took place. Anti-Semitism still exists and constantly reminding a city that they are the cause will attract more anti-Semites instead of making them learn from the past and to not repeat it.
Of course it is interesting to observe what happened but to exhibit symbolisms of people that did so many horrors in the world is not a good way of acknowledging the past. The thing they should recognize and give remembrance is to the victims not the perpetrator.
Even though they don’t exhibit the stories behind the city, they do acknowledge that it did happen. Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party should not define what Munich is. Although they are German’s they personally are not in fault. Maybe they will never move from the past or be in peace with what happened but it is not our place to decide whether they should be able to or not.
