My Thoughts on Gun Control
Gun control is any law, policy, practice, or proposal designed to restrict or limit the possession, production, importation, shipment, sale, and/or use of guns or other firearms by private citizens among others. Gun Control is a very touchy subject that has been all over the media and throughout all the social media channels. With all of the shooting that have occurred, it’s been suggested that something needs to be done with gun control in the United States. I find it very hard to want all of these regulations to go into effect when I honestly don’t feel that they will help all of the issues. I feel that guns aren’t the problem; it’s the people whose hands they’re ending up in and how they choose to use them.
“It's not a gun control problem; it's a cultural control problem.” (Barr) When researching the United States I found that the states with stricter gun control laws have fewer deaths from gun-related violence. Many people feel that with the ban on many firearms will solve the problem. Do you believe this? I don’t because the way I look at it is that no matter what the laws are put in place people will find a way to buy and sell on the black market. This is a problem because children and convicted felons are ending up with firearms from the black market. Guns have been part of many cultures so they could live off the land and I believe hunters and fishers should be able to continue to do so.
It seems that every time I turn the TV on to watch the nightly news they are reporting on yet another shooting in my area. I’ve also noticed that in many of these cases teenagers, young adults are involved, and that concerns me. How are children and young adults getting possession of these guns that are committing shootings, robberies, and other crimes? There needs to be stricter laws but I believe that there are many ways that don’t take away from those who are being faithful to the gun laws.
“You can have all the gun control laws in the country, but if you don't enforce them, people are going to find a way to protect themselves. We need to recognize that bad people are doing bad things with these weapons. It's not the law-abiding citizens; it's not the person who uses it as a hobby.” (Steele) This is exactly how I feel about all of the controversy about gun control. I look at it like this if you tell a person you can’t have a gun it’s illegal they will go major extremes to find a way of getting them.
I’ve got three well thought out solutions. These solutions are my opinion and what I feel will help keep guns out of the hands of those who are abusing their privileges. I will give my solution in the order I gave the issues above. Gun control is a very serious matter that needs serious attention.
I feel that knowing and having very strict guidelines for owning a gun is
