After getting a chance to listen to Marty, our guest speaker from Thursday; I can once again say that my whole view on Finance and its ways it can influence so many things in life is great. He began by speaking on how he went from being a man that was involved with church services, to then becoming a city school district teacher, and then finally coming to be a financial planner was really enjoyable. He always said that he was meant to help other people in life, and that in a way affected me because I love helping out people as I embark in my journey in life as well. It makes you feel better and more well about yourself as a whole. His main reason to become involved in finance was because he needed more money to take care of his now larger family. The $9,000 dollars a year he was making from his previous occupation wasn’t enough and he needed more. This in a way again hit me, because my one uncle had a similar situation when he was working at a school as a janitor and then eventually changed jobs and became a car salesmen and was making over double, almost triple the income at the school!! His company that is through Lincoln Financial is just remarkable and the success that he and his cofounders have had is marvelous to learn about. It was such a good company that when he transferred from his previous financial institution; Lincoln had used all of their tactics and actually changed their ways due to the fact him and his coworkers were so successful at what they did. This really showed me a lot that Marty was a smart man and knew what he was doing in business and finance. I was real surprised when Marty had begun to tell us that the way he was paid was mostly driven by 50% revenue; which was the money he was managing and charging a slight fee. Basically the better the job that Marty does at securing his clients’ money, the higher the chance is that they will stay with him. What I liked as well though was that he made a lot of money as well by selling products such as life insurance; which pays commission. He also uses annuities for himself; which I thought was interesting because I never knew that actual Financial Planners involved themselves in those types of personal investments.
