“Race-Based Admissions”

When applying to colleges, one must take into account what type of college he or she wants to attend. Whether it is a Historical Black University, a predominantly white University, private or public, you must look at everything about the University to be sure that it’s the college that you want to attend. Also make sure that the University is going to give you what you need to be successful. With that being said, the “race-based” admissions should not be necessary for a diverse campus.

When a person decides that he or she wants to further their education they start looking at colleges that they really want to attend. They apply and once they hear back they were turned down. Reason being their race. Race-based admissions show no sign of moving forward. It’s almost like people are being judge by their skin color rather than the content of their character. Universities make skin color an explicit condition.

“Race-based admissions” harms minorities because universities will use proxies and outright violation of the law in their quest for the “right” student mix. In the in end the student suffers because he or she wasn’t able to get in to the college of their choice. If students grades are up to par and they’ve worked really hard in school, they should be able to go to whatever college they’d like. Regardless of what their skin color is.

However when using “race-based admissions” policies at Universities, it increases minority students access to high-quality colleges. Often times you have an African American that can get into a Prestigious predominately white University because they are a minority. In these cases the “race-based admissions” is a good thing. That way you would have diversity in the University. If the race-based was not in place then it’s possible that it would all be one race which is being segregated and that’s not good in this day and time.
