Road accidents are common because thousands take place every year. Regardless whether they are minor fender-benders or major mishaps, they often lead to fatalities. Determining the causes of the accidents is extremely important for drivers, as it able to let them to avoid any unexpected car accidents. We believe that there are three common causes for car road accidents.
The most common cause is speeding, where speeding accounts for nearly a quarter of all automobile accidents. Usually, speeding through rash driving, joyriding youngsters, plain careless driving, and exceeding the speed limit in bad weather conditions increases the chances for road accidents dramatically. For example, according to the article titled “Man killed in four car crash”, Steven Daniel (2010) mentioned that the incident happened when a Toyota car with three people lost control before colliding with a Proton Wira. This shows that the driver was probably speeding before the accident occurred at the highway. Speeding reduces the available time to avoid a crash, therefore increase the likelihood of an accident as well as the severity of a crash.
Another cause for accidents is the breakdown of the mechanical components of a car. The most common mechanical failures involve damage to the tyres, brake, axle, and steering wheel failures as well as other component failures. For instance, based on the article titled “Car accident in Kelantan, two men almost killed”, Society (2010) shows that one of the witnesses said that a black vehicle approached them when it hit three motorcycles and one car parked beside the road in a split second. We can assume that the car had poor mechanical maintenance, since the driver was unable to control it. In order to decrease the percentage of road accidents, car drivers should check the condition of their cars before beginning their journey or send their car to service centres from time
