Hotel Rwanda is based off of a real life event that happened in 1994 Kigali, Rwandan (Lovgren, 1996). During the event Lovgren (1996) stated, “As ethnic Hutus began killing their Tutsi neighbors, Rusesabagina—a Hutu married to a Tutsi woman—turned his hotel into an impromptu refugee camp for more than a thousand terrified Tutsis and moderate Hutus” (para.2). The movie was written by Keri Pearson and Terry George, and was directed by Terry George (Amazon, 2015).
