SILLINESS

What is silly? To begin with, silly can be defined as having or showing a lack of common sense or judgment, absurd and foolish. As for silliness, it is the state of being silly. There are many aspects of being silly such as in doing work, in communication, and in thinking. Being silly in doing work and in thinking might usually give a bad result to that current work and idea. For instance, a silly idea that does not make sense in a decision making will only lead to negative effects. In contrast, being silly during communication would sometimes give a good result. It will make the conversation become lively and interesting. For example, a silly joke will make people around you laughing non-stop and are able to accept you open-heartedly. Therefore, we can say that sometime, it is good for us to be silly, but make sure that it is at a right place.

Now that we know that silly can also bring negative effect in spite of its little positive effect, we should prepare ourselves and know on how to avoid from being silly. The first thing to do in order to avoid from being silly is of course, we should have knowledge about the things that we are going to do. Only by having knowledge, we are able to know the rules and regulations about that specific task. It is because, the possibilities of us committing a silly mistake during performing a specific task will be minimal when we know its rules and regulations. For example, as a chef, they should know that the sugar taste sweet while the salt is salty. If the chef does not know how to differentiate between these two ingredients, he/she will end up making a worse dish. Therefore, make sure that we know something before we want to do something.

Besides that, it is also important for us to take things seriously in order to avoid from being silly. It is not enough by just having knowledge. It is because, even if you have knowledge about a specific task, but you are not performing that task seriously, than the outcome will surely be very bad and people will tend to say that you are being silly. For example, as a student, you know that you have to study and submit an assignment on time. But, only by knowing is not enough. You must study and do the assignment seriously to submit it on time in order to achieve a good great. Otherwise, you will end up failing that subject. Consequently, we must avoid from taking things lightly when performing a specific task so that it can be done perfectly.
