Itroduction
Social Networking is the way the 21st century communicates today, but what really does it mean? Social networking is the grouping of individuals into specific groups, like small rural communities or a neighborhood subdivision. In fact, social networking, which was originally designed as a simple and entertaining way to share interests, photos and other personal information, has grown into a technological and societal revolution. The history of social media is one of rapid growth, which has only accelerated as social networking sites have become more common and accessible. (Visual Academy, Online School, n,d)
Truly speaking, a lot have found old pals from school and college who were out of touch due to one reasons or another, but thanks to social network that has been resolved. Social networks has provided us the opportunity to connect with people and build better relationships with friends with whom we are unable to meet personally, and let them know about our life and take input about their lives. Although social networking is possible in person, especially in the workplace, universities, and high schools, it is most popular online.
So how does these things about social network brings causes and effects to our generation nowadays, especially to the generation Y? College students are facing and experiencing with many common problem during their duration of study and one of these common problems is social networking.
Causes of Social Networking
One of the biggest and main reasons for the cause of social networking is because it is the 21st century. Whether we accept it or not, time has moved on. We no longer communicate with each other by sending letters as it is very time consuming, so we chose the fastest way; emails, instant message and with so many social networking sites, its just easier. In 1997, the Internet was becoming increasingly popular, attracting more and more users. This new communication medium gave people a desire to connect with others. Sixdegrees.com was created as the first social networking website. Its functions were quite basic. People could set up a profile with a list of friends, browse these lists, and message others. However, the demand exceeded what Sixdegrees.com could provide. Users complained that there was little else to do besides accept and list friends.
