Chapter 12 Race and Ethnicity
A concept from the race and ethnicity chapter that I have witnessed in society is prejudice and discrimination. Not to the point of deaths, such as in the text with the Klu Klux Klan, but to a point of violence. Throughout elementary school there was no sort of prejudice what so ever, but as i moved on to middle school and high school it changed.
In elementary I had a lot of Hispanic friends; everyone was friends with everyone it seemed. There was no discrimination towards any type of ethnic group, everyone was a part of one giant group. As i moved onto middle school it was much different; immediately I noticed all of the Hispanics in my grade that i was friends with began to only to hang out with other Hispanics. There where cliques every where which i had never seen before. Most all of the Hispanics were prejudice towards the others at my school, they would only treat other Hispanics with respect. There wasn't much discrimination except for one specific time that i remember; it was when i was in 7th grade, one day during the school year we had heritage week, where one day you bring the flag from which you were from. The hispanics for some reason, decided to grab most of the students American flags and rip them in half. This escalated to violence between the hispanics and Caucasians during the week and ended with multiple suspensions from both sides.
