The cause and effects of teen pregnancy
Today, teen pregnancy is one of seriously growing problem in United States of America. Based on a survey that was done, almost seventy hundred thousand teenage girls were pregnant in United States of America. Eighty percent of the pregnant girls were due to accidental sex with their partners. While some think of getting an abortion, others think of dropping out of school to work, in order to earn money for her upcoming baby.
Despite the fact that the rate of teen pregnancy has been decreased since 1979, it is still almost as twice as higher than Great Britain, almost as four times as higher than France and over ten times as higher than Japan. More than forty percent of those who are pregnant have not yet reached their age of twenty. From this, people should recognize the cause and the seriousness of this problem and figure out a way to protect teen pregnancy. There are a lot of reasons why not a lot of people recognize the seriousness and the cause of the teen pregnancy. One of the main reasons is the lack of sexual education in public schools or from their parents.
Compared to other classes taught at public schools, sexual education class is very short. This might be the result that schools do not consider teen pregnancy as a big problem. The shorter time of sexual education would bring out lack of using contraceptive and misunderstand the concept of sex. This would put wrong concept and idea of sex into teen’s mind and it would cause sex abuse such as rape.
Teenagers get frustrated and seek affections from their boyfriend or girlfriend due to the lack of time they spend with their family.
