The Rational

The psycho-educational in the study is being applied to undergraduate students who were identified as having at risk behaviors while consuming alcohol. The implementation of a psycho-educational group to the area of drug and alcohol consumption is relevant is several ways.

Psycho-educational group are focused on the education of a group of people about a subject that is having some sort of effecting on their lives. In this study the effects that were focused on would mostly be considered a negative effect. The group were students who were at risk for potentially hazardous actions such as driving while using alcohol, engaging in sexual activity, illegal substance abuse, various types of assault, and the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases.

The statistics that are accompanied with the use of alcohol while in college can be very shocking. More than 690,000 students across the country a assaulted by a college student who has been consuming alcohol(Wilcox, S. 2017). There are also around 97,000 documented case of alcohol related sexual assault or date rape(Wilcox, S. 2017).

When looking at the academic level of consequence of using alcohol around 25 percent of students have reported some sort of effect on their grades when consuming due to alcohol consumption(Wilcox, S. 2017). When looking at health and suicidal problem that are brought on by consumption of drug or alcohol it envelopes about 1.5 percent of students and around 1,800 students will die each year due to some event surrounding the consumption of alcohol(Wilcox, S. 2017). All of this combined gives a true rational for the exploration of this study.

Brief Summary

The study was a short term psycho-educational group focused on undergraduates that when tested, tested at risk for the potential of hazardous and or unsafe behavior while consuming alcohol(Bayles, C. J. 2015). The study hope to show that a short term psycho-educational intervention would alter the destructive path of the undergraduate(Bayles, C. J. 2015).

The intervention consisted of a single three hour group session the consisted of a ninety minute portion focused on motivational interviewing with the group members(Bayles, C. J. 2015). This would consist of introductions, questions, and a basic effort to build a basic level of rapport with the clients(Bayles, C. J. 2015).  The second ninety minute portion of the group time was spent completing cognitive interventions that were used to developed to educate the group members through out the single session(Bayles, C. J. 2015).
