SUBJECT: Evaluate 435th Transportation Company Retention Environment
1. Purpose: To inform the Unit Leadership of the current Unit Retention Environment
2. Strength Maintenance Program.
a. Mission/Overall Goals (NGB): The 435th TC is currently at 115.5% of their assigned strength in FY16. The assigned strength is 168 actual is 194
b. Policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s): SOP’s are all current and up to date, and are outside of the orderly room. The First Sergeant assigns each new Soldier a sponsor that is the same skill level and MOS. All ETS interviews are conducted in the appropriate period.
c. Extension/Immediate Reenlistment Objectives: The Unit Retention NCO will identify all personnel who need interviews and schedule those interviews with the appropriate interviewer. The unit’s retention goal is 85%.
d. Responsibilities of Unit leaders: Each leader in Soldier’s chain of command has Strength Maintenance (SM) responsibilities outlined in NGR 601-1. First Line Leaders (FLL’s) are the most influential in the SM program because they know their soldiers and can identify issues that may influence retention. The First Sergeant oversee’s the Commanders SM plan. The Unit Retention NCO will schedule and conduct retention interviews, and keep accurate records of all counseling. Recruiting and Retention NCO (RRNCO) in addition to company leadership will conduct retention interviews with soldiers nearing their ETS.
e. Retention Binders: The Retention Binder is located in the orderly room. The Unit Retention NCO maintains it as an additional duty assigned by the Commander. The unit retention binder includes all retention counseling’s, regulation’s, publications and updated policies related to SM.
f. Bars to Extension: The unit currently has thirty-four: Two for adverse action, fifteen for APFT failure, eight for height weight and nine for other reasons.
g. Family Programs: Our Family Readiness Group (FRG) representative is SSG Joseph Rice and the FRG Leader is Anita Rice. The FRG conducts meetings quarterly through-out the fiscal year. The FRG will also assist the unit in the planning of both the December holiday party and the summer family day. The FRG also assists families in need.
