Veterans Are Important to our Nation’s History and Future
Veterans are the leaders of our country. They shape our country through their examples and their leadership. Service is the foundation of our republic, without service our country has no meaning. In the future, service will be what carries us forward as a country. These are all very important reasons for us to realize how essential our veterans are to us as a people.
Service is what our country is built upon. When we were colonists of England, we broke free because of the men that were enlisted to fight for our freedom. That struggle has continued with us each and every day, with every war we’ve been a part of. Young boys have dreams of wars and fighting, and army games are often abundant in neighborhoods in our country. Men and women leave their homes to go and fight for what they believe in. As history has defined it, this tradition of service and unity continues to be what the foundations of our country are laid upon.
Without service, our country has no meaning. We exist day by day to fight for what we believe in. Whether that be gay rights, which is prevalent in today’s news, or the right to have freedom from those who wish to impose their ideals upon us. Veterans are the successful idols of this idea, even if the war they fought was not won. Those who have served have a fierce loyalty to one another. You hear often about “brothers in arms”, those men who have fought and bled together remain close for the rest of their lives. With this bond of brotherhood that they’ve developed, they give us an example of what we as a country should strive to do each and every day.
A quote by Abraham Lincoln says: “America is the country of the future. It is a country of beginnings, of projects, of vast designs and expectations.” When we think about veterans, we also need to think about why many of them serve. For some, it’s a family tradition. Other times they are going in a direction in their lives that they don’t like, and they believe that going into the service may help them solve that. Loyalty to their country
