The Battle of New Orleans

        Father,

        I am writing you this correspondence to appraise you of the battle in which I just partook in.  It will be known forever remembered as the last battle of the War of 1812.  I feel it is necessary to explain what happened during the battle and what significance it has to the outcome of the War of 1812.

        As you now from previous communications, our leader, Andrew Jackson, has gained notoriety and will continue to do so.  In March 1814, his victory over the Creek Indians was a great morale booster.  In May, 1814, his invasion of the area known as Florida was also successful.  They were able to occupy Pensacola, at which point the leader, Andrew Jackson, would relocate troops to New Orleans in anticipation of a British attack on the port (History.com, 2009).

        When they arrived in the port of New Orleans, I grew unsettled waited for the British attack to come, so I took up arms.  A British force was spotted near Lake Borgne and Andrew Jackson declared martial law.  He ordered for every weapon and for every able bodied man to take up arms in the fight against the British.  There were even pirates manning artillery cannons and other weapons (History.com, 2009).  

        On January 8, 1815, it finally arrived.  I witnessed a force of British which we had never seen the likes before.  They were proven warriors, who had seen combat during the Napoleonic Wars.  Our force however, was impenetrable.  We were able to kill over 2,000 of these invading force.  Andrew Jacksons’ ingenious defensive positions were critical to our victory.  We were able to win victories due to a serious of daring night attacks on the British and impenetrable defensive lines.  We were victorious and our actions here will have a lasting effect for generations to come (History.com, 2009).
