ASSIGNMENT NO. 1-BLOZIS COMPANY

The president presented these complaints to the supply manager and asked him for a solution.

1.If you were the supply manager, what recommendations would you have made?

There are several opportunities for improvement in this scenario.Employees must know,understand, and be trained in their specific duties to achieve top performance.The supply organization has limited control over materials once arriving from the supplier.Receipts for supplies are not documented properly, and no paper trail is present for movement of merchandise.Supply management also needs improvement. They do not support requisitions, no interpretation of technical specifics are explained, outsiders are issuing purchase orders, time management of orders, payments have issues because of missing paperwork, receiving inspections are not in compliance with company standards, and all areas appear to be unorganized.I would improve the supply processes at this company by defining the role and responsibilities of the expediter, which would be follow up and expediting orders. I would ensure all shipments are delivered to the receiving clerk.

2. At what points does this supply department exhibit weak control over (a) materials and (b) overall supply management performance?

Supplier manager have not technical expertise.but through the years he got the technical knowledge which may not be appropriate.Expediter was overworked with lot of responsibilities.Supplier demanded long overdue payments which may impact company’s reputation.

The main problem was data inaccuracy like receiving documents were incorrect or missing.No disciplinary actions were taken in the context of missing micrometers.

3. How could these weaknesses be corrected?

  • Lack of communication
  • Entire team should take technical training in order to get expertise.
  • Every employee should have their own roles and responsibilities without overworking.
  • Receiving department should be responsible for all the receiving items and documents related to it.So that supplier if claimed,can be paid.
  • Due to inaccurate data, inventory was not correct.So in order to make it correct,document should be prepared properly.

4. What activities should the expediter be responsible for in this organization?

He should be responsible for picking up rush orders and supervising the stock room. An expeditor's role is primarily to look at the requirement levels in the business and fulfill the demands by either rescheduling in or rescheduling out the delivery date on the purchase order. The expeditor is also responsible for making sure there is no line stopping situation for a business. The key metrics which an expeditor influences may be - On time Delivery, Cash Flow Cycle and Inventory Management.
