Introduction
The base in Crane, Indiana was a huge conglomeration of four different branches working together to support this nation military. The ability to do this depended on databases syncing and balancing. The many databases that did sync were searchable and allowed to be accessed by many of the staff through an intranet folder system.
The Ease
The ease at which the database could be accesses was actually dependent upon the particular database and the information that was being retrieved. The systems that were used were actually all internal systems and could not be bought in the outside world. The systems were heavily encrypted and could only be accessed by someone with an id card. Once an id card has been attained, simply input it in keyboard and log in. The systems security will have been input into your card allowing you full access.
The Databases
Many of the databases were for information that was input by the government or people that were not stationed on the base itself. While there were ways to have input changed, control of these databases were not given to the financial analyst at this level. Very few people actually get to see that level of openness at Crane. The office that can make changes was called the Comptroller. This person measured the accuracy of each and every division in the database for mistakes and end of fiscal year reports ran to show the ending balances of all accounts. The best case scenario was to have your account at zero, to high and government cut funding to allow other projects to receive this money.
