Abstract
Remote Controlling already exists in our daily life and is not a new concept. But here we came with a new technology in the controlling system. We are going to use our mobile for this purpose. As mobile is now days very common device that every person carries all the time. Taking the advantage of this phenomenon; we are going to use this as remote for controlling home appliances increasing the luxury of life with some added advantages. The concept of this system is to make use of Bluetooth technology to operate home appliances. Every Bluetooth enabled device is able to operate just by perform the authentication and pairing.
Keywords: Bluetooth modem, Microcontroller, Relay.
- Introduction
There are many disabled and aged people who always depend on others for their basic necessities. This application gives them a hand. With this application, a user can himself use the electrical appliances in his room. Without moving anywhere or without seeking anyone's help, the user himself feels a little independent. With this application a disabled user can control the various electrical device devices viz. Tube light, Bulb, Fan, AC, etc. with the help of his/her Bluetooth enabled mobile only. And also the current status of devices can be monitored on the mobile itself.
- Background Overview
- Existing System
Currently there are following types of controlling methods for electrical appliances:
- Manual Switching System,
- IR Based Switching System,
- RF Based Switching System.
- Drawbacks of Existing System
The current controlling methods have following drawbacks:
- Manual switching requires to go personally to control the devices which is very inconvenient in case if one is busy or physically challenged person,
- IR Based switching requires line of sight for communication which again makes the system uncomfortable if someone want to switch appliance of another room,
- RF based switching is only one way communication. User has to keep one extra remote all the time with him/her. Also the interference with another remote will be a major problem.
- Proposed System
The above proposed system will be developed into two major parts viz. the Mobile Software and the Embedded Hardware.
User will require installing the mobile application software on the Bluetooth enabled mobile. The hardware will be interconnected with the existing electrical board. The following are the steps that will explain the flow of operation:
- Start the Application in mobile,
- Pair the mobile once with the remote hardware,
- Enter the pre-defined password to get access,
- Get the status of the devices by selecting Status option on mobile,
- Control the device by selection respective options from the menu.
