Layout is one of the key decisions that determine the long-run efficiency of operations. An effective layout can help an organization achieve a strategy that supports differentiation, low cost, or response. The objective of layout strategy is to develop an effective and efficient layout that will meet the firm’s competitive requirements.
Layout design must consider how to achieve the following:
- Higher utilization of space, equipment, and people
- Improved flow of information, materials, or people
- Improved employee morale and safer working conditions
- Improved customer/client interaction
- Flexibility
Perodua Sales Sdn Bhd divides into two layouts, specifically the office layout strategy and the process- oriented strategy.
Office layout strategy requires the grouping of workers, their equipment, and spaces to provide for comfort, safety, and movement of information. As for Perodua, the front side of the building, we can say that the area is for the customers and the workers to communicate. They divide the workers area into four areas, which is the service advisor area, administration room, the operation control room and cashier room. There is one manager room which is located near to the service advisor area. They also provide one large meeting room for the staffs, rest room for both genders, surau for genders, pantry, and a utility room.
The service advisor area is where the officer liase with the customers. They will key in all the data required for customers’ cars to be service. The area is spacious and located at the front desk. Customers may not have to wait for a long queue to liase with the customer service officers because there are four counters provided. The administration room is equipped with open cubicles and low cabinets. The operation control room is connected between the administration room and the operation bay. The room equipped with desks, tools and cctv. Mechanics do stand by at the operation control room. Cashier room is opposite the customer lounge. They provide one counter for payment.
As for Perodua is dealing with customers who come to service their vehicles, Perodua provides a comfort customer lounge with a large flat screen television and sofas. They also provide a play space for children. Parents can eye watch their children from the customer lounge while waiting for their cars to service.
