Analysis of the project brief assignment

1.1.1 Problem Analysis

TransMem is company based in central Scotland which employs 10 staff and supplies flash drivers and memory cards for phones and cameras to local companies and clients further fields. The company is current network is unreliable unsecure and not fit for its purpose. I have been given a network project for my graded unit to redesign or improve reliability and security of TransMem’s network. Current network is going will be reviewed, the need of current business is going to be reviewed and then will be designed a network which is modern, secure, scalable and cover business needs for many years to come. This project should be completed within the tie limit and within the budget.

Brief

TransMem’s is current using Computer Networking system which is slow and unreliable. The Managing Director has decided that the current network needs to be upgraded and new network installed from scratch to meet the company’s current and future requirements. Company has three departments within the office and Managing Director.

• Sales Department

• Purchasing Department

• Accounting Department

TransMem’s management are thinking of having

• One network pc for each member of the staff

• All staff should access generic office suite

• Purchasing staff should access purchase ledger software

• Accounting staff should access standard accounting package and patrol package

• Managing Director, all mangers and purchasing staff should access internet

• Each department should have printer

• An additional backup printer to all staff in case of problem

• Managing Director should have his own printer

• Accessing time from 08:00 am to 06:00 pm

Analysis of current system

After gathering information by conducting shadowing and interviewing Management and staff it is time for me to analyse the key factors that involve in the project and feedback that I got from both management and staff of TransMem.

TransMem’s main business is to supply local drivers and memory to local companies and wishes to develop a web presence to sell directly online. I read the scenario of the organization I found lot of weaknesses and threats in the network because there is unmanaged access to the backbone of the network.
