Native American History HTY-110HM

29 August 2017

In the beginning, Native Americans were eager to trade corn, beads, and other small items for glass, copper and bright fabrics with the English settlers. The English were not interested in trading goods. Their goal was to take control of the Native American Indians land by any means necessary. English settlers would settle land without offering tribute to the Indians. English settlers started planting tobacco crops on Indian land, and eventually took the land without giving the Native American Indians anything for it.

In 1642 Land-grabbing profit-minded English settlers became more common. Many English settlers would steal livestock, burned and looted houses, and towns of Native American Indians and they squatted on the land that did not belong to them.

Several states passed laws limiting Native American Sovereignty. Southern states were determined to take ownership of Native American Land and go to great lengths to secure the territory. Law required the government to negotiate treaties to fairly and peaceably remove Native American Indians from their land. But the government ignored the law and forcibly removed the Native American Indians from land they have lived on for generations.

The schemes that exist today are Nigerian Letter or Email, Fake Contractors and Eminent Domain. The Nigerian Letter or email is a scheme that tries to trick you out of your money. A supposedly Nigerian Prince will send an email stating he has millions of moneys in a bank account that he cannot access. He then asks you to send your bank information and he will transfer the money to your account. You must first send him a certain amount of money so he can open the account to see the money. He has just taken your money and you will never hear from him again or he will ask for more money to continue the scheme. After a disaster strikes like Hurricane Harvey in Texas, citizens will look for General Contractors to fix their home without doing research to see if the contractors are licensed or not. Then they will pay money upfront for the repairs and never see the contractor again. Losing their money and supplies. Eminent Domain is when the US Government or State Government can take your property to expand roads, drainage ditches and highways, etc. The government takes the property and usually only wants to pay the homeowner the minimum value of the land. Sometime the land owner will go to court to fight for a better settlement. In the end the government get the land, and hopefully the landowner put up a good fight for a better settlement.
