There is no American history separate from the history of Europe. All of our major accomplishments came from and with Europe including the XYZ Affair, the Franco-American alliance, treaty of 1818 with England , and the French Revolution.
The XYZ Affair started when the Americans refused to pay French Officials (known as x,y, and z) a bribe worth a significant amount of money. Instead, they went back and and paid thousands of dollars to raise their army using their slogan: "millions for defense, not one cent for tribute". The Americans wanted to talk to the King of France about the treaty but the French officials wouldn't let them through without paying up.
The Treaty they were going to discuss was the Franco-American Alliance stating that the French would aid the United States in their war against England as long as the Americans agreed to help the French in their own revolution. After awhile the Americans didn't want to honor the treaty because they didn't want to be pulled into another war and because the American government and George Washington agreed to stay out of war for a decade. A decade of peace.
When the French Revolution did turn into a war, America stayed neutral instead of honoring their side of the treaty. But, after the French heard why they remained neutral, they decided it was a good idea and did the same thing.
Now they have a new treaty formed with England called "the treaty of 1818" creating a boundary to define the US border with Canada as far west as the Rockies using the watershed of the Missouri River.
Not only did it give the United States western expansion, it also created new alliances with the french and with England and a new, better format of government.
